This heavy steel planter assembles using the machine screws and, in theory, a provided Allen wrench.Installation looks simple, considering there are only twelve screws to install. However, getting the screws in place with the included tools is a significant task requiring over an hour of work. The screws appear to have no taper on the end, so they need to be perfectly aligned to the hole even to start. Also, having the nuts alongside the sheet metal makes it difficult to even get the screws in place, as there is barely enough room to hold the screw in one hand while using the allen wrench with the other. Then, once you manage to get a screw started, you can only turn the Allen wrench about a quarter turn before having to remove and reposition it for another quarter turn. After spending nearly twenty minutes installing two screws, I decided to first preset the rest of them into the holes and remove them. This appeared to prime the holes sufficiently that everything was a bit easier to install. I also went to my toolbox and retrieved a screwdriver with a hex bit so I could more easily position screws into holes.Once assembled, the stand looks great. I brought my spider plant indoors for the winter and placed it into the stand. However, the shelf is twelve inches below the rim, so you will need a tall pot to show the plant above the planter rim. Instead, I placed three 2 x 4-inch pieces of wood on the metal shelf to raise the level. There is no designed way to adjust the shelf level.Next spring, I'll put the entire plant and stand outdoors. It is heavy enough that it shouldn't need further support. The planter looks great, but the design is not ideal, and installation is a chore.
I got the corten steel version of this planter and am pleasantly surprised at the value for the price. To be clear, this planter is made of a thinner metal welded to a frame that makes it appear thicker than it is. It is quite tall--a good 30% taller than the planter I am replacing that I assumed was the same size and which cost around the same price for basic black. For a truly steel corten steel planter you would pay three or four times as much as this planter, so it's a great choice if you want that rusted look for less.I was worried the "corten steel" would be a paint treatment, but it is truly rusted--I have the once white, now orange shirt I was wearing when I assembled this to prove it. Be sure to change into old clothes on top and bottom before handling this. It comes with a pair of gloves to protect your hands but mine did not have any sharp edges. It is not particularly time consuming to assemble--it only has 12 screws--but when you're attaching that fourth panel, the screws inside are a bit difficult to reach and/or see without a flashlight. An interior false bottom allows you to fill it with half the dirt, but that also makes it a bit top heavy.
This black metal planter is made very well. It looks nice and is sturdy. Easy to put together. Very versatile style.
This review is for the Galvanized Steel Metallic Heavy Planter for Outdoor Plants Metal Planter 14"x14"x30" Spliced Flower Planter with Partitions for Outside,Indoor,Garden (Black, 14 * 14 * 30).This is an awesome metal planter that I got in black! Great size, well constructed of quality galvanized steel metal, sturdy, good black paint... It's not to difficult to assemble. Comes with an allen wrench to assemble, the bolts are already welded in place.Once you assemble the 4 sides, If you're trying to reach all the way down inside to screw the bottom on, then you're putting it on wrong! The bottom should be screwed on from the outside bottom, watch the video and you'll see what I mean. Then the upper shelf just sits inside on the ledge. As much as I like this the bottom being left empty, if you use the upper shelf, just seems like wasted space to me! So I haven't decided yet just how/where I'll use it, but I will and I really like it!Regular price $ 119.99 per the listing which I find too high a pricepoint, but it's on sale $ 109.99 and there's a $15.00 off coupon making it better. But as I always say watch for a sale/coupon, browse listings... to find your best deal!As always I only do honest reviews and update if needed. I hope this helps you make the best choices how to spend your $.
Being an exotic tropical plant collector, I'm constantly looking for unique planters and different ways to display all my plants. I have a particular affinity for alocasia plants, and these particular plants, when taken care of correctly, can get absolutely huge! I'd recently been gifted a set of beautiful, big, "regal shield" alocasia that needed a big planter, and this ended up being absolutely perfect for them!? ASSEMBLY: The box that the pieces arrive in, is decently heavy, so I knew right away that this would be a big, heavy weight planter. You have to assemble the entire thing, and all the pieces and tools are supplied in the package. It's put together entirely, by an alan wrench and screws and the particular wrench that is supplied is made especially for this product assembly and to be able to fit into narrow places and awkward angles. The assembly instructions are somewhat vague and don't include a lot of written instructions, but instead just diagrams and pictures. The most difficult part to assemble is the very bottom plate, because it attaches and screws in, from the inside. So, be ready to stretch inside the planter to the very bottom to attach is securely.? PAINT KNICKS: I'm assuming that the galvanized metal is powder coated black, and because of this, there are a few places on the corners, and especially the top rim of the planter that is knicked and scratched. There were some scuff marks along one side and the corners around the top rim. However, as long as you either have a black sharpie or a black paint pen, that can very easily be remedied. Just be careful with moving it, or using tools around it, since it does knick easily.? HEAVY AND SOLID STRUCTURE: Once it is fully assembled, the planter is quite heavy! I would very highly recommend to put the planter where you want it, first, before filling it with dirt and plants that will inevitably add to the weight of the planter. It's heavy when empty, so it's even heavier when it's full! If you have a furniture dolly that you can place it on, that would be even more ideal!? HUGE PLANTER SPACE: Even with the interior shelf installed, the inner planter diameter and space is huge. To fill it, I ended up using almost an entire 50lb bag of potting soil. It's perfect size to fit two, one gallon size planters inside of it, side by side, so the alocasia that i had for this, fit flawlessly beside each other inside of the planter, so i just had to backfill all the extra empty space with soil. There is a drainage hole in the center of the bottom, and that's a definite plus! Especially when it takes almost an entire gallon of water to fully saturate the amount of soil that this planter takes.? CLASSY, PROFESSIONAL, MINIMALIST AESTHETIC: I love the minimalistic look, so this was right up my alley. It has a very sleek, classy, professional and almost elegant kind of feel. Like these would look so nice in a pair, set on either side of a front, entrance, door, or on either side of a huge, grand, window.? OVERALL RATING: ????? FIVE STARS ? IN SUMMARY: I love this so much! I really wish that I was able to afford a second one, because I would love to put these on my front porch, on either side of my front door. It would look so classy, and have that elegant, "expensive" kind of aesthetic. It's a little tricky to assemble, and it's very heavy weight and durable, but it's a wonderful planter that can contain so much. I very highly recommend this planter, but would also recommend to get a pair, if possible. ?
